Originally, this terraced property, which dates to the 16th century, was a tenement compound, most likely inhabited by fishermen and their families, due to its proximity to the sea. History and Uniqueness of the Property
Alfama Terrace, a gated property in one of Lisbon's oldest and most famous districts, opened to the public in December of 2012 after more than two years of renovation. The property sits on a private terrace in Alfama (from the Arabic word "fountains"), Lisbon's oldest quarter, and remains much like it was 300 years ago. This village within a city is made up of narrow streets, tiny squares, alleys, patios, churches and small whitewashed homes with ancient tiles and wrought-iron balconies.
